I’m Not Fat, I’m Thrifty: Project Communications
Communications just fascinates me. Given that it’s something that all of us do every day, you’d think it’d be something we got pretty good at. Nothing could be further from the truth. As practised as we are in communicating with others, we humans, in general, really really suck at it. It’s not like we don’t try. Unfortunately none of us […] -
Communication Bias: Message Self-Serve
Today I want to talk a little bit about communication. I came across a piece in the news recently that gave me pause enough to want to check multiple sources. Mine is not a political blog, so I will refrain from injecting my own opinions. However, I thought this would be a fabulous opportunity to discuss something we see in […] -
Six steps to a communications disaster
On any project with more than a small handful of people, word travels fast. While it might move fast, however, it’s rarely accurate. In all my years on projects, I have consistently observed a tendency for people to rapidly amplify and distort news, thus creating artificial problems for a project manager to contend with. I would be interested in reading any studies that empirically show the phenomenon I am about to describe. -
Oh Lord, Please Don’t Let Me Be Misunderstood: Project Communications

[…] -

It shows you: who are the groups you need to communicate with? what do you need to point out to each group? how should you communicate with each group? why do you need to communicate with them? what skills should you lean on during communications? All you need […] -

The Agile Manifesto Approach and 4 Principles
Before there was Agile Manifesto, software development was a slow, tedious process. Companies canceled projects during the development stage because their requirements have already changed. As a result, many software development companies were not profitable. With the introduction of the Agile project management, teams had a methodology to to change requirements quickly without sacrificing the quality of the end product. […] -
Why Smart People Fail: The Keynote
Last night I had the pleasure of speaking at PMI Durham Highlands monthly meeting. The talk was called “Why Smart People Fail: The role of emotional intelligence in project success.” I had a great time putting this piece together, especially since it maps so closely with the work I’m doing a Trent University’s Emotion and Health Research Laboratory. Thanks so […]
